A Day in the Life of an HVAC Service Professional


Early Morning Preparation

My day as an HVAC technician starts before sunrise. At 6 AM, I’m already reviewing the day’s service calls while enjoying my first cup of coffee. Working for Guardian Heating & Cooling means being prepared for anything Chicago’s unpredictable weather might throw at us.

First Call – Emergency Heating Service

By 7:30 AM, I’m heading to my first call in Northbrook, where a family woke up to a cold house. Winter mornings in Illinois can be brutal, so these calls take priority. After diagnosing a faulty ignitor and replacing it, I’m rewarded with the satisfied smile of another warm customer.

Mid-Morning Maintenance

The late morning takes me to Lincoln Park for scheduled maintenance work. Regular maintenance is crucial for:
• Extending system lifespan
• Preventing unexpected breakdowns
• Ensuring optimal energy efficiency
• Maintaining indoor air quality

Afternoon Challenges

After lunch, I tackle a complex installation project. Every system is different, and that’s what keeps this job interesting. Today’s challenge involves updating an older building’s HVAC system while preserving its historic character.

Evening Wrap-Up

Before heading home, I:
• Complete service documentation
• Restock my truck for tomorrow
• Check tomorrow’s schedule
• Review any emergency calls
